Re: Poetry Thread
I am Sam Sam I am
That Sam-I-am! That Sam-I-am! I do not like that Sam-I-am!
Do you like green eggs and ham?
I do not like them, Sam-I-am. I do not like green eggs and ham. |

The Pig
The pig, if I am not mistaken, Supplies us with sausage, ham, and bacon. Let others say his heart is big— I call it stupid of the pig.

Marbled Imperfections
You could follow the trail of freckles down The slightly curved line of my nose My facial expressions could be traced along The subtle grooves of my forehead And you could play connect the dots with The scars on my body
Call them imperfections or ugly Something I should hide David shows no flaws—he’s beautiful Then again, Michelangelo made him out of stone. I’m flesh and blood—I’m beautiful too.

Re: Poetry Thread
Here is one from my friends Board poems thread.
The Whole Duty of a Poem
A poem should be, as our best ever are, Golden of heart like a rose or a star.
A poem should be, like the brook that you hear Sing down the mountainside, lovely and clear.
Yet in its music a poem should hold That which is felt but may never be told.

Re: Poetry Thread
One of my favorites. Author unknown.
Love's Risk
There is a risk involved in everything Every time you share a smile Every time you shed a tear You are opening yourself up to hurt.
Some people tread slowly through life, Avoiding the closeness risk brings, Side-stepping the things they can't understand Turning away from those who care too much- Those who care too long, Those who hold too tightly.
There is never an easy way to love You can not approach it cautiously It will not wait for you to arm yourself. It does not care if you turn away It is everywhere, it is everything.
Love is the greatest of all risks. It is not reliable, it is not cautious, It is not sympathetic It is unprejudiced and merciless. It strikes the strongest of mind, And brings them to their knees in one blow.
Even in the best of times, love hurts. It hurts to need, it hurts to belong, It hurts to be the other part of someone else, Without either of your consent. But, from the moment it overtakes you, It hurts worse to be all alone.
The risk of love never depletes; It grows stronger and more dangerous with time. But, it's in the total surrender of all defense, That we, no matter weak or strong, No matter willing or captive, No matter what, we truly experience love.
Despite the many things love is not, Outweighing it all are the things that love is. Love is surrender without a loss. It is a gift without the cost. It consumes your every thought & desire, Every breath you take. It is the fire that fuels you To do more than pass through life; It urges you, instead, to live.
No matter the outcome, having felt love, You will never be the same. It may scar your heart & soul And Leave you only memories of forever. Or, it may cause every day of your life To feel like there is no need for tomorrow. But, love is worth it. It is worth the risk... For in all of life, Love is truly the only risk worth taking. |

Re: Poetry Thread
This is one of mine. I could never think of a name for it. Its one of my best even though its a little bit depressing. My english class was doing a project & we had to write our own poetry. I already had quite a few already but 2 days before the presentation I came up with this one (thanks to the stress of late night musical theatre practices & rumors going around about me) I received really good marks on it too. I havent written a new one in years...
The weight of her world on her shoulders, Broken dreams in her mind. Untrue rumors & laughter In a world that is unkind. Trying to survive a life Destroyed by peoples lies & wondering if a best friend's love is hatred in disguise. Trying to hold back her tears, Holding back the pain. They've ripped apart her hopes & dreams, She'll never be the same. All she can do is hang her head & live another day. With broken dreams & rumors Trying to block her way.

Re: Poetry Thread
for next time: talk to all pretty women, especially the happy ones. make words your worst obsession. learn all that you've heard. make nothing habit. well, except grooming, granola, and compassion. don't give in to extremes: the center actually holds just fine. live your life in slant rhyme. suppose you only know that which you don't. depend on friends. enjamb your love. and do not fear. ever. the rest of them already sick with it, they will forget. also, on moods: don't have them. and fail to be insecure if failure is your thing. remember this. do all you can, and cherish what you do.

Tracks
Using a cobbler's shoe last I found one summer at a yard sale, and the heavy leather uppers from cast off boots, a jigsaw, some wood, an awl and thread, and a few evenings sitting alone thinking of you, I have fashioned a pair of red valentine shoes with heart-shaped heels. Look for my tracks on your doorstep where I stood with sore feet through the evening, too timid to knock.

Re: Poetry Thread
LOL...that was funny...but in attempt to make this thread at LEAST semi-serious...i'll post one of my other poems...
"So I Weep"
A twinkling star's death is a sad thing to behold. To see a gem in the night sky fall from it's heavenly place gives good cause to weep.
What makes something, so full of promise and life a tragedy when it tumbles earth ward? It's a question that gives good cause to weep.
When I met you You twinkled in my eye I admired you and when I looked at you my eyes go towards the sky
That was then and when I see you now you fell from grace gone from that heavenly place
It seems that even a young boy couldn't catch himself in the rye You suffered the same fate and It gives me good cause to weep So I weep...

Poetry Thread
Stand right up folks and bravely post your poems! It can even be poems of your favorite poet. Also feedback would be nice for those who have posted thier orignal works.
I'll start with a humorous one that I composed on the spot and read it out loud at poetry contest at BYU...(and won too).
NCMOS At BYU it is taboo We all do it-even at Hoagle Zoo We make out at movies, in the living room or front of Macy’s Yesterday it was Jane, Tonight it will be Amy, Tomorrow will be Lacy. So let me give you some tips Just go ahead and lock your lips Yes... At BYU its taboo But let’s agree—it’s good for me and you
